Runesaber was founded in 2024 by guitarist Shaynie Rhoads.  She met Ian Bassett while applying to SDSU for grad school, initially as his student as she prepared for her audition into the Master’s of Music program.  Upon their first meeting, they instantly bonded over their love for heavy metal and classical guitar.

When Shaynie began writing music for a new project she'd started, she asked Ian if he might be interested in joining, and he agreed to fill in until she found someone more permanent.  But as Shaynie's writing process became more closely intertwined with Ian's leads, reinforced by their shared background in classical music, he became a crucial element to the conception of Runesaber.

Runesaber independently released their first single, "Last Bite," on February 13, 2025.  They are now working on their first full-length album.
